A question from one of ya’all…
“Matt, are you going to propose a transition plan for road season prep? Been off the bike since Sunday and worried about getting too much rest, but also recognize the need to rest the mind…would also like to know your thoughts on weight training. Any insight would be much appreciated!”

I have received this question from several people now, and due entirely to my slavish devotion to you, the answer is “yes.”
Coming soon.
I’m working on it…

Excellent! What category of racer will your road work outs focus on?
You tell me! I will write for whoever is going to read it…
Seriously!
That said, I’m going to try and write workouts that will follow the pattern of the cyclocross workouts; adaptable to a variety of levels by changing the intensity and duration of the efforts, but following the same basic pattern regardless of level…

I will am 5 but will race almost all of the season as 4, just 3 more starts. I have Friel’s book and i selected 500 hours based on upper end of cat 4 lower end of cat 3 training. I want to come out swinging this season. I can stay with the 5’s but I have nothing in the tank to finish…lame!
Cool. I can definitely get some stuff up that will help you out.
I definitely have some significant differences of opinion compared to Friel, and will allude to them pretty heavily in the next couple of posts. The first thing you will notice is that I’m not (at all) a believer in “base training” as Friel proposes, especially for a rider that just rode an entire cross season!

I can totally see that! I however didn’t do a cross season lol. I just one race out of the blue, but I will do a full season next year! So that being the case I am doing a lot of base and tele skiing right now, is that a bad idea?
